HEALING THE EFFECTS OF STIGMA

I only wish I were younger so that I would have more time to speak to the wrongs I see in the world – to help a well-intentioned world see that there is something important missing in their efforts to reduce the stigma of mental illness.

What is missing are the voices of the people for whom the whole effort is intended – the many who, like me, know better than anyone what mental illness is all about, because we live it. Our points of view are too often dismissed.

Do you know why you’re trying to reduce stigma? Are you listening to the voices of those affected by it?  And if you hear about their pain, why don’t you try to help them overcome it instead of simply avoiding more pain from occurring?

Check In the Name of Jesus, for examples of how we as Christians can give spiritual support to those living with mental health challenges.
