HATRED WITHOUT REASON
No matter what our religion might be, history has proven that Jesus was a man who lived 2000 years ago. During his three-year ministry, he introduced the people who experienced his presence to what unconditional love looks like. He showed acceptance, kindness and love to the sick, especially those the world had rejected. Secular history books, as well as Holy books like the Christian Bible and the Muslim Quran have told his story and quoted his words of wisdom.
The Bible quotes Jesus: “Whoever hates me hates my Father as well. If I had not done among them the works no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin. As it is, they have seen, and yet they have hated both me and my Father. But this is to fulfill what is written in their Law: ‘They hated me without reason.’” (John 15:23-25)
It seems to be the way of the world—the way between those who don’t know the love of God and those who do. Jesus was hated by those who did not accept his love. And we who know his love will also experience that hatred.
We’re not alone with it.
The world is stubborn about accepting or loving Jesus, no matter how amazing his works have proven to be. They know that what he had done had never been done by anyone before him. And yet they refuse to value or appreciate him and his work.
His words were foretold in Psalm 69:4: “They hated me without reason.”
How immense the gulf that exists between Christ’s unconditional love and the ugliness of hatred by those who resist that love! They are poles apart.
Jesus has told us that following him would be costly. For many of his followers—even today—hatred towards them exists, as it did for him.
But those who cannot contain that kind of love are driven to hatred instead.
Lord Jesus, we need you again! Come back and make your presence known, as you did so long ago.
Teach us to love.
