THE MYSTERY OF CHRIST’S HEALING POWER
Have you ever wondered how God can help us heal and help us cope with pain—emotional and otherwise?
For years I suffered from debilitating traumatic memories. But ever since I started receiving support from a very special person, I began to feel much more at peace.
And I wondered, what was it in the support of this friend that was helping me find healing? And how could Christ’s love have healed so many people 2000 years ago as the gospels show?
I decided to sit down and try to describe it properly—to solve this mystery with words as well as I could. It would be so good for those who want to follow Jesus to understand.
This new person in my life became a very good and kind friend. He is close to God and does all he can to serve Him by bringing God’s love into a world that needs Him so very badly.
He knows my story and the emotional pain I sometimes deal with. He has shown me what God’s love is like, much like Jesus showed God’s love when He walked the earth.
This friend makes himself available to me regularly by responding to emails I send him in the early mornings after I’ve spent time with God. When he reads my email he always writes a few words in response. Only a few because he’s a busy person. But his words are always well thought out. Always encouraging in some way.
One of my favorite responses from him comes in one word: “Listening.” Even that one word means a lot to me. When a person will take the time to stop his busy life to read what’s on my mind, it means he cares and that he hears as God hears—probably quite carefully.
Through my friend’s steadfast kindness, I have seen what God’s never-ending love for me is like. He is an example of how a person who knows God’s love can kindly reach out to a person who needs that love.
And I can see how the person in pain can in that way fully come to feel God’s love—his warmth, and his steadfastness. There’s peace in that knowledge. There’s healing.
One day, I was again feeling the pain of traumatic memories. But the promise that my friend was there with his kindness brought healing to the painful trauma I suffered.
And then I found an email in my inbox from a member of my church telling me that my church friends were praying for me. And I realized that many had been praying for me because word had gone out to them about my needs. I felt enveloped by God’s love for me.
I felt the love more than I felt the pain.
More than ever before, I realize the great power of prayer and how God’s love can flow from one person to another through the kindness they show. It especially helps people suffering from emotional struggles, whether it’s because of their mental or physical health.
God’s love reveals itself through the kindness of others—those who make the time to consider others’ needs. And in a mysterious way, those who bless others with their love, find themselves blessed at the same time.
