Creative passion, or creative juices as it’s often referred to, is much like real juice. Sweet and flavorful. It quenches our thirst to make beautiful things—things that would not exist if it weren’t for us being here.

I’ve often thought of how God must have felt when he created the earth. When he created us. The Bible has a few words to say about it: “And he saw that it was good.” Not a lot of words, but—as in everything God says—within those few I think there is a lot more meaning than is at first obvious.

If you have created something you’re truly happy with—even excited about—you will know what I’m talking about. Think of the pleasure you experienced when you baked a great cake, knitted a colorful sweater, or painted a picture better than you ever thought you could. If you have felt such pleasure, you would understand a wee bit about what God might have felt when he “saw that it was good.”

God’s projects aren’t simple ones like ours are, making cakes and sweaters and paintings. He had much bigger things to do. God formed the earth and all that makes it what it is. From the dust of the earth, he formed us with all our intricacies. We are his creations, Maker of all that is good. If it weren’t for him, we would not exist.

I know how enthusiastic I feel when I’m immersed in photographing bouquets of flowers, so—in my own small way—I imagine how God must have felt. I can imagine the passion and love that went into creating you and me. I can appreciate how much we, his works of art, mean to him. In every way we are his. He has made us—inside and out. It is he who gave us our minds, our hearts, and every part of our being.

With love and passion God created us. And he continues pouring that love into us daily.
