IN THE NAME OF JESUS

More than anything, I’d like to help caregivers understand what it’s like to experience the pain caused by stigma—to get into the heart and mind of the sufferer. Only then will they know how important it is to fill their needs.

But the one who wants to give care needs to know Jesus and his story of pain and the stories of how he loved and how he healed. They will need to ask for his presence in their heart and in the situation.

When, in Christ, the caregiver starts to share in the pain along with the person they’re caring for, they themselves will personally come to feel the need for healing as well. They will remember Jesus and his great love—a love that’s always available.

The caregiver joins with the hurting person, in fellowship with him in his pain as they come into fellowship with the suffering Christ.

The knowledge of Christ’s love will sink in. They will find healing.

I believe this is how it might become possible for a caregiver to understand the perspective of a person who is in pain because of stigma.
